Australasia
Australasia is generally relatively safe, especially Australia & New Zealand. The size and diversity of environment tends to surprise people travelling in Australia for the first time. If you are driving, ensure you take ample supplies water, fuel etc,as the distances are vast. Also, it's important to appreciate the strength of the sun, contracting skin cancer is a threat and something the Australians are well aware of.
For those planning to explore Indonesia be aware of the ongoing terrorist threat against westerners, check situation on www.smartraveller.gov.au or www.fco.gov.uk
Fiji | Travel by boat to the Yasawa IslandsClaire Symmonds | 13 May 2010
Definitely recommend a trip out to these islands for a budget stay - but just so long as you have plenty of time - the boat trips don't go every day and are a little weather dependent. Also, be strict on the boat and life jackets - they tend to squeeze you in. The boat I went on had 3 outboard engines (first warning sign), a couple of backpackers sat on the bow (avoid at all costs) and not enough life jackets. The first engine ran out of petrol half way there, the second three quarters of the way there and the third about 800yds from the shore. And that was on a calm day - had it been windy or rough, I doubt very much we'd have made it! Don't be afraid to say no!
