Peru, 28/1/10  - Excessive rain and flooding causing severe travel disruption in Cusco area of Peru

Jan 10;  Heavy rain causes flooding in SE Brazil and in many parts of Bolivia.  

11 Nov 09 - outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis kills over 60 in NE India, travellers suggested to have innoculation.  

Drug related violence increases on Mexican/USA border.

Relations between Colombia and Venzuela get worse, Chavez tells army to prepare for war.

In Bolivia and Peru there has been an increase in civil unrest, travellers should avoid street protests. In Peru, the Shining Path has begun a terrrorist campaign against the security forces. 

Political instablity set to continue in Thailand. Threat of terrorism in southern Thailand increases. 

Increased unrest reported in early October in India's Assam & Kashmir's, travellers strongly urged to avoid both areas.  

Dengue Fever alert in South America and South East Asia. In 2009 there has been a dramatic rise in cases of dengue fever in Paraguay, Argentina, Bolivia and parts of Brazil ( esp Rio) and more recently Guatamala, Singapore, Fiji and Thailand. This virus is spread by mosquitos which bite in the day.  Best from of prevention is covering up and using repellant with DEET. Dramatic Increase in infection reported in Nicaragua in Oct 09.   

There remains a significant threat from terrorist attacks in Indonesia and also in Thailand.  Whilst islamist attacks in Thailand have occurred in the southern provinces, there is concern that a  popular tourist resorts to the north will be targeted.
