Dengue Fever alert in South America and South East Asia. In 2009 there has been a dramatic rise in cases of dengue fever in Paraguay, Argentina, Bolivia and parts of Brazil ( esp Rio) and more recently Guatamala, Singapore, Fiji and Thailand. This virus is spread by mosquitos which bite in the day. Best from of prevention is covering up and using repellant with DEET. Dramatic Increase in infection reported in Nicaragua in Oct 09.
There remains a significant threat from terrorist attacks in Indonesia and also in Thailand. Whilst islamist attacks in Thailand have occurred in the southern provinces, there is concern that a popular tourist resorts to the north will be targeted.
