There has been a dramatic rise in cases of dengue fever in Paraguay, Argentina, Bolivia and parts of Brazil ( esp Rio) and more recently Guatamala, Singapare, Fiji and Thailand. This virus is spread by mosquitos which bite in the day. Best from of prevention is covering up and using repellant with DEET.
There remains a significant threat from terrorist attacks in Indonesia and also Thailand. Whilst islamist attacks in Thailand have occurred in the southern provinces, there is concern that a popular tourist resorts to the north will be targeted. Travellers in Thailand should expect further street demonstations as opposition to the government increases, there may well be another military coup if the current political unrest continues.
Terrorist threat level raised in Indonesia; following the executions of 3 men convicted of the Bali bomb the Indonesian authorities have warned of threat a of revenge attack. Travellers are advised to aviod nightclubs and other busy tourist social spots.
