In South and Central America we would highlight the dangers when travelling by bus, the depressing statistic is that approximately 700 die annually in Peru as a result of bus crashes. Dengue fever may also be a threat, in early 2010 there were serious outbreaks in Brazil, Bolivia and Guatemala.

Watch out on some of the rural treks in Southern Peru where there are small stalls along the trek to buy bottled water. When I was there my friend was about to buy one when I wandered around the corner to see a bottle being filled up by the nearby stream. Not great for the stomach!
