As a destination for Gap Year travellers, Europe is so often overlooked. Whilst Inter-railing around Europe has been popular for decades, the opening up of Eastern Europe has provided endless opportunities to explore. We would urge travellers to head east to Poland, Romania and beyond. Distances can be immense and transport often antiquated, but highly rewarding. We do get feedback about scams in The Czech Republic, especially on the Prague Metro and corruption amongst officials is common in many areas of Eastern Europe.
Germany | Berlin Tegel Airport to city centre
Best way to get to the city centre is to take the TXL bus to the central station (Hauptbahnhof) and then go on from there. Cost is €8.
The Netherlands | Train, Tram and Metro Travel

Eastern Europe | Must buy vignettes online
In certain Eastern European countries you must buy a vignette.
Romania | Bucharest Airport Bus scam
Last May I went walking in Romania, on arrival at Bucharest OTP airport we met a con artist within 5 minutes of clearing baggage. He tried to claim he was a registered bus driver providing lift to local hotel when no such service existed at that time of night. We were suspicious so checked with the Information Desk, our concern was proved right.
