South Africa | Beware Johannesburg Baggage HandlersCharlie McGrath | 03 Feb 2017
Sadly the appalling reputation for theft from checked in hold baggage at OT Johannesburg airport continues. My daughter's bag had been rifled through, her the make up and a rain coat stolen. Our other bags untouched. Since the event I have heard stories of padlocks being broken so locking suitcases may not be enough. Our advice; don't have anything of monetary or sentimental values in suitcases passing through OT Johannesburg airport. One could consider having the suitcase wrapped in clear plastic, a facility that is avaialbe at most airports.
