Colombia | Santa Marta and the Caribbean CoastHarry Behrens | 18 Dec 2021
The Caribbean coast of Colombia is beautiful but try and avoid Santa Marta where possible. The city is dangerous after dark and there have been many muggings at knife/ gunpoint. Rather head down the coast on the 'collective' bus to Tyrona, Costeno beach and Palomino. Best hostels are 'The Journey', 'El Rio', 'Los Hermanos' and 'Costeno beach'. Also stay in Minca which is just behind Santa Marta. Best hostel there is 'Casa Viejas'. If going in Dec/ Jan, remember to book well in advance for all the hostels as they sell out fast with Colombians going on vacation.
